In a recent TV commercial I just happened to see a few days ago, I saw our Governor announce a special toll free hot-line and a web site to contact if you are among the many people facing foreclosure in the state of New Jersey. The current economic times have left us with a very harsh and pity-full reality in the housing market and dismal employment future. As we all struggle to keep control of our finances, many of us are facing loosing their homes with the threat of foreclosures. Banks and Mortgage Lenders have not been very helpful in this situation nor have they been trying to resolve issues on their own with their clients in trouble. With all the bank tarp bail-out money going out the door of the American tax payers (through the Federal Government), and more to come, you would think that they would try to resolve these issues peacefully with their clients before it reaches the congress and or the White House, but they are not. The confusion in the programs, spewed out before the new administration and the scams taking place by many law firms ( claiming to represent the government) is wide spread and will only get worse if the White House and the Congress do not get involved and put a stop to this spiral of disaster. Many of the scams taking place are done so thanks to the leaks of the so called Hope program (some refer to it as the Hopeless program) of the Federal Government from the previous administration. Utilizing the large database of names of people asking for help to questionable 3rd party law firms and others, these scammers in turn contact the trouble borrower trying to confuse them into something that will not resolve their issue (scams mostly) but further put them into something even worse.
So what does the troubled borrower do with so much information out there and so little direction to go on? One direction to go is first at your state level like the link I have posted above with the picture for the state of New jersey. Another is contacting your congressman/ women, senator(s), and or the White house directly (President Obamas open Door Policy to help). Remember to be careful with misinformation from scammers trying to make a buck from your misery, they are out there and very smart in there approach on how to obtain your confidence.
In the next posting I will review the steps that I have found in the state of New Jersey that many of you facing pending Foreclosures may find useful and to let you know what to expect with references and more information on links. One tip before I end this article you might find useful if you are facing foreclosure and have been served with a court summons, respond to it and do not ignore the summons. It will not go away nor will it get better by ignoring it. Seek legal counseling immediately at a reputable law firm referred by either the NJ Bar Association or Legal Services if you are also facing income restraints and economic hard times.
